Shirley Adkins

Shirley G. Adkins, age 88, of Carey, passed away Sunday, Nov. 19, 2023, at the Ohio State Medical Center in Columbus.

A funeral service for Shirley is noon Monday at Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, and will be officiated by the Rev. Jim Stauffer. Burial will follow at Old Mission Cemetery. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to noon Monday at the funeral home before the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews and can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave., Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.

Shirley was born Aug. 26, 1935, to Orb and Effie (Adkins) Mullins. She was married to Denver Douglas Adkins on July 12, 1960, in Wise, Virginia, and he preceded her in death Sept. 26, 2015.

Shirley is survived by her two daughters, Sharron E. (Joseph) Fleck, of Carey; and Catherine A. Whitaker, of Arcadia, Florida; five grandchildren, Amy Jo (Kevin) Jordan, Jennifer Anne (Robert) Ramge, Ryan (Stephanie) Kitzler, Joshua (Erin) Kitzler and Seth (Chelsea) Kitzler; and 10 great-grandchildren. Shirley also is survived by two sisters, Margaret Addair and Virgie (Ronald) Jones.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and three siblings, Elizabeth Marko, Hershel Mullins and Jay Mullins.

Shirley was a homemaker, staying home to raise her two daughters. 

She loved to cook, and she especially loved to spend time with her entire family. Shirley was a very compassionate person who loved to care for others and spent much of her time caring for her friends and neighbors. She enjoyed reading her Bible and watching her Christian TV programs. She was a very loving mother and grandmother.
