Elida’s single players too much for Upper

ELIDA – Elida’s singles players were too strong for Upper Sandusky in a 3-0 victory in the Northwest District quarterfinals of the Ohio State Tennis Coaches Association team tournament Tuesday at Elida.

The doubles matches were left unfished, but the Bulldogs made quick work of the Rams in singles play.

Jaden Neuman downed Holden Daris 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 1 singles match. The other two singles matches were 6-0, 6-0 sweeps in favor of Ben Osman and Eban Jackson against Avery Gill and RJ Dennis, respectively.

“I actually through our guys played pretty well against phenomenal opponents,” Upper Sandusky coach Aaron Frazee said. “Holden played really well in the second set, but Neuman is a guy you can’t make mistakes against because he doesn’t make many.”

The Rams were in both doubles matches. Abe Baldwin and Owen Gottfried dropped a tight first set in a tiebreaker and were even 2-2 in the second set against James Mitchell and Leyton Staley in the No. 1 match. The Rams’ Daniel Engle and Jackson Gottfried split two sets against Baylor Altenbach and Alex Dunahay, 6-4 and 3-6, in the No. 2 match.

“I was very happy with both of our doubles teams and how they were playing, but with the match decided, we ended those matches due to some obligations we had to get back home for,” Frazee said.

Elida advances to face Lexington in the Northwest District semifinals.
Upper Sandusky has its last home match at 4:15 p.m. today against Galion.
