DEFIANCE — Shane Pack qualified for regionals in his second event, and Chris Omeonga, Nate McMillan and Madelyn Shasteen also advanced to the next level of competition in the conclusion of the Division II district track and field meet Friday at Defiance High School.

The softball field at Fostoria High School quickly became unplayable following heavy rain just as the Division IV district final game between Carey and Columbus Grove was set to begin Friday.

Nineteen-year-old Corrie Knapp was diagnosed with diabetes at age 11, and the Upper Sandusky High School graduate is working to bring together other children with the illness. Knapp created Camp Ohana, a three-day summer camp for Upper Sandusky-area children living with diabetes and their friends.

CAREY — It was senior day, but a couple of freshmen stole the show. Bridget Mullholand’s one-hit shutout was better than Hannah Messmer’s one hit and no earned runs allowed in a 1-0 Carey softball victory over Wynford on Thursday.

Volunteers once again are preparing to work alongside senior citizens living with dementia at Fairhaven Community through the Opening Minds Through Art program. OMA pairs 12 volunteers with Fairhaven residents living with Alzheimer’s Disease. Volunteers assist residents in creating artwork one day each week through the end of June.

FOSTORIA — Carey found the offense that eluded it the night before and is back into the Division IV district final following Wednesday’s 13-7 victory against North Baltimore at Fostoria. The Blue Devils (14-5) smacked 14 hits, built an early lead with a five-run second inning and then answered every comeback try by the No. 2 seed Tigers (19-6).
