Carey quickly has become softball power
FINDLAY — The Carey softball team’s rise to prominence has been a quick ascent. Only three years ago, the Blue Devils won their first district game in school history. Now, they are one of the final four teams remaining in the state tournament after Saturday’s 5-3 extra-inning victory against state No. 1 Gibsonburg on Saturday at the Marathon Diamonds in Findlay.

FINDLAY — One swing of Felicite Smith’s powerful bat has the Carey softball team headed to the state tournament for the first time in school history. Smith’s one-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning capped off the Blue Devils’ 5-3 comeback victory against state No. 1 and previously unbeaten Gibsonburg in the Division IV regional final Saturday afternoon at The Marathon Diamonds in Findlay.

After many years of waiting, an Upper Sandusky native finally is getting his chance to address his hometown and talk about his service to his country. Col. Keith Newell, a United States Air Force veteran, is the featured guest speaker at Upper Sandusky’s Memorial Day ceremony Monday.
Injuries don’t stop Carey runners
TIFFIN — Injuries have not been kind to the Carey boys track and field team this year, but the Blue Devils persevered to meet their goals Friday. Seniors Gavin Woods and Trevor Cook qualified for the state meet with fourth-place finishes in the Division III regional meet at Frost Kalnow Stadium in Tiffin.

TIFFIN — Not feeling the best, Riverdale senior Carrol Pauley made things a lot easier on herself with a strong first throw in the discus in the Division III regional track and field meet Friday at Frost Kalnow Stadium in Tiffin.
Pawzfest celebrates 15 years
Wyandot County Humane Society’s Pawzfest dog walk and fun day celebrates 15 years June 11. Dog owners and their fur babies are invited to take part in a 1-kilometer walk at Harrison Smith Park in Upper Sandusky, followed by contests, raffles and demonstrations.
