Children who completed 10 books in the Dorcas Carey Public Library summer reading program gathered for a party at the Carey pool Monday morning. About 400 youth from age 3 to sixth grade participated in the program, and 285 completed 10 books.

Hoops for Hospice

Participants in the first Hoops for Hospice fundraiser to benefit Hospice of Wyandot County present a check for $3,720 to hospice director Cathy Browne. The event was sponsored by Westbrook Assisted Living and Memory Care.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation vision is “to grant the wish of every child diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition,” according to the organization’s website. But 18 years ago the granting of one teenage boy’s wish did not satisfy his love for planes. The experience only motivated him to do one thing — become a fighter pilot for the United States Air Force.
