Lions Club invests in playground

Building for the youth

The Upper Sandusky Lions Club began making improvements to the playground designated for small children at Harrison Smith Park on Friday and Saturday despite the rainy weather conditions. The renovation is the first of many future projects to update the condition of the park.

With their bright orange T-shirts donated by a local businessman, a group of fourth graders at South Elementary School marched to the downtown area for a store visit after using a school year’s worth of borrowed items to get a glimpse into the past. Alan Lortz’s fourth grade class at South has been studying antiques since the beginning of the school year.

USHS seniors recognized with awards

Upper Sandusky High School senior Emma Smith took home 11 awards to lead the class of 2016 during the annual awards ceremony Monday night. Smith won the Charles and Jean Gottfried Scholarship from the Wyandot County Community Foundation, along with the Floyd Hays Art Scholarship, Ohio State University Alumni Scholarship and Elks/OSU Big Nut Scholarship.

Mohawk squeezes past Calvert

District champs

CLYDE — With hits hard to come by, Mohawk coach Eric Hoover decided to take a chance that paid off. With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, Austin Shock’s suicide bunt scored pinch runner Brayden Dunlap from third to give the Warriors a 2-1 victory against Tiffin Calvert in the Division IV district championship Saturday at Clyde.
