Dick and Phyllis Gerber believe they have one of the largest forsythia bushes in the state of Ohio on their farm about 1 1/4 mile west of Nevada on CH 182. The Daily Chief-Union could not independently confirm it as one of the largest in Ohio, as no organization was found that kept track of the statistics, but did find the flowering shrub grows to a height of 8-10 feet and a spread of 10-12 feet at maturity, according to the Arbor Day Foundation.

Carol Minehart has known that that she was receiving the Rotary Club’s highest honor — the Service Above Self award — since mid-February. Even so, that did not make the honor any less humbling as her friends and family toasted and celebrated her accomplishments through her service to her family, community, church and the eighth-grade students she teaches during a dinner Monday night.

William and Ruth Ann Miller were relaxing in their living room recliners, watching the evening news and enjoying a peaceful night at home around 7:30 p.m. Thursday night. Their quiet night was disrupted in an instant, however, when everything from the southeast corner of the living room of the home they have resided in for the past 48 years —including their television set —  suddenly came flying toward them.

A combination of parishioners from Fostoria St. Wendelin, Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, All Saints Parish from Frenchtown, Alvada, New Riegel, Transfiguration of the Lord Parish from Kirby and Upper Sandusky along with others from around the area participated in a Good Friday walk from Frenchtown to Carey carrying a cross in remembrance of Jesus' Crucifixion commemorated by Christians on this day.

Local Moose to continue support of Ohio, county Special Olympics

Moose for Special Olympics

The Upper Sandusky Moose Lodge will continue its longtime support of Wyandot County Special Olympics with a baked steak dinner at 5:30 p.m. April 2. Over the past eight and a half years, the local Moose Lodge has given close to $140,000 to Special Olympics, whether for local athletes or for the carnival-like Tent Town offered at the Summer Games in June, Upper Sandusky Moose administrator John Loverich said.

Angeline tops Community All-Stars

Angeline remained undefeated in its annual exhibition game against the Community All-Stars, taking a 68-49 victory Wednesday evening at Upper Sandusky High School. In the final game of the season, the Indians trailed 14-9 after the first of six six-minute periods.
