Seven local nonprofits, governmental units awarded WCCF grants

Grant recipients

The Wyandot County Community Foundation presented $4,216 in grants at a breakfast Friday at Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center’s Willow Café. “Organizations awarded grants serve citizens of Wyandot County, the communities of Carey, Sycamore and Upper Sandusky and will generate nearly $12,000 in matching funds,” said Jean Gottfried, president of the foundation.

Foster Local campaign kicks off

The Wyandot County Department of Job and Family Services has teamed up with four neighboring JFS county offices in the Foster Local campaign, an effort to spread awareness about foster and adoptive parenting in local communities. The marketing campaign was funded through a $250,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

Search warrant yields gun, drugs

Another bust

A rural Upper Sandusky man was arrested on felony drug charges Wednesday evening after a search warrant was served at 13961 CH 115. Zachary Z. Scofield, 24, was taken into custody after the search warrant unveiled a large amount of marijuana, cocaine, prescription pills, a 9 mm pistol and $9,383 worth of cash believed to be the proceeds of drug sales.

County seventh-graders take annual Great Outdoors Tour

Upper Sandusky seventh-graders started the annual Great Outdoors Tour on Wednesday with a stop at Carey’s Vaughn Industries, where they learned about the local business and its conservation efforts. The tour is an annual field day offering students a chance to learn about wildlife, natural resources and conservation actions in Wyandot County, according to information from the Wyandot Soil and Water Conservation District, which sponsors the tour annually.
