TIFFIN — Members of the Upper Sandusky Modern Woodmen of America chapter have helped raise money for a local boy diagnosed with cancer by holding a spaghetti dinner and auction at the Tiffin Moose Lodge. The event held for Garrett Chester in May raised $6,000, including $2,500 matched by Modern Woodmen’s home office through the organization’s matching fund program.
Work on the courthouse tower may be slightly delayed due to the possibility of asbestos in caulking, Midstate Contractors Inc. project supervisor Steve Gilmore said during a weekly construction update meeting on the restoration project at the Wyandot County Courthouse. While roofing and other work continues on the project, airblasting to remove paint and rust from the tower cannot be completed until caulking that has been testing high, is removed.
FOREST — The Forest community will honor two women who are known throughout the village for their strong work ethic and their sense of humor. Peggy Vanderpool has been named the grand marshal of Friday’s Tree Town Festival parade and Joann Gault is being recognized with the Community Spirit Award.
NEVADA — Although Tuesday morning started out cloudy with a chance of rain, it did not stop Mike Wheeler, youth from the Wyandot County summer youth work program and the three Wyandot County commissioners from donning shovels and pry bars and carrying stone to attempt to straighten up veteran’s headstones at Nevada Cemetery.
A rural Upper Sandusky couple visited city council Monday evening to express concern over a dangerous low-head dam that has been the site of three boating fatalities in the past two and a half years. Mike and Karen Gillen said they live near the problem area on the Sandusky River and wanted to know what will be done to warn canoers and kayakers about the low-head dam.
John McCallister knows football and more importantly, he loves it. McCallister, 66, of Upper Sandusky, has been involved with the game since he played in high school and college, along with a couple of stints as head coach before his true passion came to fruition — evaluating talent.
