SYCAMORE — Mohawk Local School District voters will have to wait 10 more days to find out who will be joining Ray Wagner and Samuel Flood as the third newly elected member of the district’s board of education.
At least 40 newly elected and re-elected candidates had no opposition in their races for local office, including those in the largest municipality in the county. Among uncontested races, Upper Sandusky Mayor Scott Washburn notched a third four-year term with 1,685 votes, while council members Rick Roberts (1,143 votes), Scot Swinehart (1,237 votes) and Bill Thornton (1,081 votes) also were re-elected to another term each.
All levies on the Wyandot County ballot passed, including an additional 2-mill tax for the Upper Sandusky Exempted Village School District. That vote was the closest one in the county, with 1,873 votes in favor of the levy and 1,680 against.
CAREY — Steve Smalley will serve a second term as mayor of the village of Carey after defeating write-in candidate and current Council president Chad Kin in Tuesday’s election.
More than 45 percent of registered voters in Wyandot County went to the polls during Tuesday’s general election that included three statewide issues and a plethora of local candidates and issues. A total of 7,029 of the county’s 15,284 registered voters turned out for the election, according to unofficial results provided by the Wyandot County Board of Elections.
Voters in the the Mohawk Local School District know the board will have two new faces joining it in January. They know that Sam Flood will be one of those faces, but there still is some uncertainty as to who the second will be.
Crystal Smith and Greg Palmer won two open seats on Nevada Village Council during Tuesday’s general election, according to unofficial results from the Wyandot County Board of Elections. With four candidates in competition, Smith was the top vote-getter with 98, while Palmer was second with 86.
Five of the county’s 27 township-level races in Tuesday’s election were contested, including one race for fiscal officer and four races for trustee. In Antrim Township, newcomer Jeremy Mouser took more than almost 60 percent of the vote with 246 ballots cast for him among the 413 in the race.
HARPSTER — Harpster voters elected one new council member and approved the renewal of two operating levies in the village during Tuesday’s general election. Incumbent Megan Liane Watterson and Kim M. Heidenreich were the top vote-getters in the three-person council race.
