BUCYRUS — The Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District nominating committee is searching for qualified candidates who are interested in serving on their board of supervisors. Supervisors are public officials responsible to the people of Crawford County.

The Gottfried Nature Center and the Wyandot Soil and Water Conservation District will be holding a summer day camp from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 21 at the Gottfried Nature Center on CH 330 west of Upper Sandusky. The all day camp will include sessions involving hands-on investigations into the areas of creatures that fly, food chain producers, trees and plants, and a collection of outdoor games and nature fun activities.

BUCYRUS — Do you have an eye for the beauty of Crawford County? Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District is excited to bring back the photo contest, “Crawford’s Charm.” This contest is for amateur photographers, and the photos must be taken within the county.

MARYSVILLE — The 2017–18 Ohio Cattlemen’s Association Beef Exhibitor Show Total program wrapped up May 5 with its annual awards banquet held at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus. “The banquet is a time to celebrate the many achievements of our BEST participants, both in and out of the show ring,” said Stephanie Sindel, OCA Director of Youth Programs.

The United States Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency encourages dairy producers to consider enrolling in the new and improved Margin Protection Program for Dairy, which will provide better protections for dairy producers from shifting milk and feed prices.

Each county Soil and Water Conservation District in Ohio is governed by a board of five local supervisors. One supervisor will be elected at the Wyandot Soil and Water Conservation District’s annual banquet on Aug. 16 and will serve for three years beginning in January 2019.

BUCYRUS — The Wynford FFA chapter held its annual FFA banquet April 12. The banquet began with a potluck meal in the high school gymnasium.

On April 19, the Upper Sandusky FFA hosted its 81st annual parent-member banquet to celebrate the achievements of the FFA and its members over the past year. More than 400 members, community figures and parents came to support the program.

On May 3, more than 500 4-H and FFA members from 33 states competed in the 67th annual National Land and Range Judging Contest in Oklahoma, and the Upper Sandusky FFA was one of them.

Conservation Reserve Program participants are responsible for ensuring adequate, approved vegetative and practice cover is maintained to control erosion throughout the life of the contract after the practice has been established. Participants also must control undesirable vegetation, weeds (including noxious weeds), insects and rodents that may pose a threat to existing cover or adversely impact other landowners in the area.
