BUCYRUS — It is best to give a bit of thought on where trees actually will work best for you in your landscape before planting. A tree can benefit you all year round if in its proper place.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — The Wyandot County FFA chapters held a Chapter Degree FFA Banquet to recognize members and present each with the silver chapter degree pin Feb. 5 at Riverdale. A Total of 47 FFA members from Carey, Mohawk, Riverdale and Upper Sandusky received their Chapter Degrees.

CAREY — The Carey FFA and The American Red Cross recently worked together to host a blood drive. The drive netted 36 donors and collected 34 units of blood.

All participants of Farm Service Agency programs who request program benefits are required to submit a completed CCC-902 (Farming Operation Plan) and CCC-941 Average Gross Income certification and consent to disclosure of tax information to be considered for payment eligibility and payment limitation applicable for the program benefits.

CAREY — The Wyandot County FFA chapters (Carey, Mohawk, Riverdale and Upper Sandusky) are currently selling fresh strawberries. The proceeds from the sale will be used to conduct and support Wyandot County FFA activities.

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Hope Brodman, of Carey, is a new junior member of the American Angus Association. Junior members of the association are eligible to register cattle in the American Angus Association, participate in programs conducted by the National Junior Angus Association and take part in association-sponsored shows and other national and regional events.

Orders are being taken for Wyandot Soil and Water Conservation District’s 50th annual tree seedling sale. Order forms were in recent newsletters and are available at the SWCD office, 97 Houpt Drive, Suite A.

BUCYRUS — The Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District has evergreens, hardwoods and shrubs available through its annual tree and plant sale. The district is taking orders until March 16.

The Livestock Indemnity Program provides assistance to eligible producers for livestock death losses in excess of normal mortality due to adverse weather, including losses due to hurricanes, floods, blizzards, wildfires, extreme heat or extreme cold, and attacks by animals reintroduced into the wild by the federal government or protected by federal law.

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Department of Agriculture and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources announced the discovery of a hemlock-killing pest in Lake, Geauga and Athens counties. The hemlock woolly adelgid is a small, aphid-like insect native to Asia that threatens the health and sustainability of two hemlock tree species native to the eastern United States.
