Organic Producers and Handlers May Apply for Certification Cost Share Reimbursements; Expanded Eligibility for Transition and State Certification Cost As of March 20, organic producers and handlers are able to visit more than 2,100 USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) offices to apply for federal reimbursement to assist with the cost of receiving and maintaining organic or transitional certification.

Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District will sponsor full scholarships of $375, for two high school students to attend the Ohio Forestry and Wildlife Conservation Camp this summer. The one-week resident camp is at FFA Camp Muskingum in Carroll County and takes place June 11-16.

The USDA recently designated Crawford, Marion and Seneca counties as primary natural disaster areas due to losses and damages caused by drought that occurred from June 1 through Oct. 4. Farmers in Delaware, Hancock, Hardin, Huron, Morrow, Richland, Sandusky, Union, Wood and Wyandot counties also qualify for natural disaster assistance because their counties are contiguous.

KENTON — The Hardin County OSU Extension office is having a workshop titled Making Hay: From Seeding to Harvesting on April 3 from 6:30-9 p.m. for anyone interested in learning more about the hay-making process. The extension office’s location is 1021 W Lima Street, Suite 103 in Kenton.

BUCYRUS — Crawford County Soil and Water Conservation District is making landowner records prior to 1990 available to local landowners. The Crawford SWCD is offering landowners the opportunity to pick up old tile plans and other conservation records created prior to 1990.

Joyce Morehart recently was recognized by the Erie Basin Resource Conservation & Development Council for her service as president in 2007-2008. She currently serves as a council member representing Wyandot County along with current Wyandot County Commissioner Bill Clinger, at large member Don Schilling, and Wyandot Soil & Water Conservation District Supervisor Larry Passet.

National Agriculture Day is today and is a day designated each year by the Agriculture Council of America to celebrate the accomplishments of agriculture. Wyandot County Farm Service Agency joins the council in recognizing farmers and ranchers for their contributions to the nation’s quality of life. This year’s theme is Agriculture: Food for Life.

KENTON — Ohio State University Extension and the Hardin County Farm Bureau are holding a Farm Safety Day on Saturday, at Mid-Ohio Energy Cooperative, 1210 W. Lima Street, Kenton. The free event will start at 8:30 a.m. with doughnuts, coffee, and juice.
