MOUNT BLANCHARD — During the final week of August and the first few weeks of September, county fair goers flock to the fairgrounds in Findlay, Kenton and Upper Sandusky for the Hancock, Hardin and Wyandot county fairs, which fall on consecutive weeks. The fairs are home to a wide variety of livestock shows for members of 4-H and FFA organizations and open shows for adults.

KENTON — Hardin County Ohio State University Extension will host a corn production issues seminar from Ohio State University Extension’s Agronomic Crops Team tonight at 7 p.m. The location of the seminar will be the community room at Mid-Ohio Energy Cooperative, 1210 Lima St., Kenton.

COLUMBUS — The leadership and advocacy development program, AgriPOWER, is now accepting applications for participation. The Ohio Farm Bureau Federation’s AgriPOWER Class IX will include 20 individuals who are committed to improving their understanding of important issues and are willing to develop skills to become effective advocates for the farm and food community.

A Marketing Assistance Loan is available for producers who share in the risk of producing an eligible commodity. To be eligible, a producer must maintain continual beneficial interest in the eligible commodity.

The Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors for 2017 are Nathan Brause, chairperson; Zach Stuckey, vice-chairperson; Kent Stuckey, secretary- treasurer; Andrew Eichhorn, fiscal agent; and Rose Hartschuh is a member.

COLUMBUS — The 2017-2018 small game and migratory bird hunting and trapping seasons were proposed to the Ohio Wildlife Council on Wednesday, Jan. 11, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. The hunting season date proposals prepared by the ODNR Division of Wildlife maintain many traditional opening dates.

KENTON — Farmers will have the opportunity to learn about cover crops in a one-day workshop at the Plaza Inn Restaurant in Mount Victory on Friday, Feb. 10. The program will be held in the banquet room of the Plaza Inn, 491 South Main Street, Mount Victory, OH 43340.

BUCYRUS — The Crawford County Ohio State Extension Office will be hosting a workshop for the Ohio Woodlands Stewards Program. The program set for Feb. 6 is for anyone wishing to learn about opportunities woodland landowners may explore to pursue.

Wyandot County saw a decrease from the previous year in the number of deer harvested during the four-day muzzleloader season Jan. 7-10, while Ohio saw an increase overall. Hunters in Wyandot County harvested 96 white-tail deer during the season, a decrease from the 115 harvested in 2016.
