The Ohio State University Extension beef team has announced the details for the 2017 Ohio Beef Cattle School. The 2017 Ohio Beef School webinar series will begin Jan. 17 with a close look at what the cow and calf sector can do in the foreseeable future to enhance profitability.

CRESTLINE — The Crawford Park District recently released its upcoming events for January. A class titled, “Who’s still active at the Nature Center?” will be offered Jan. 12 by the Crawford Park District.

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Beef Council, Ohio Corn Marketing Program and Kroger recently made a donation to the Mid-Ohio Foodbank as a result of a social media campaign performed over the month of December. Nearly 7,000 pounds of beef were delivered to the food bank, equaling approximately 28,000 meals for families in need.

A change is coming in 2017 that will affect how livestock owners feed and medicate their animals. The Food and Drug Administration recently amended the distribution and use of veterinary feed directive drugs and animal feeds containing VFD drugs in livestock considered food-producing species.

The Upper Sandusky FFA recently hosted its greenhand banquet with 27 members receiving their FFA greenhand degrees. To receive the degree, members must have passed an FFA knowledge test, presented the five paragraphs of the FFA creed and have a planned supervised agriculture experience.

COLUMBUS — Ohio Farm Bureau Federation’s Young Agricultural Professionals will host its annual winter leadership experience Feb. 3-4 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Columbus. The event includes 20 workshops covering a wide range of food and farming topics.

BUCYRUS — Annie’s Project — Education for Women, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing educational programs designed to strengthen women’s roles in modern farm enterprises, will offer a six-week session beginning Jan. 25 and continuing from 5:30-9 p.m. Wednesdays.

CAREY — Carey FFA member Olivia Coppler placed eighth in the state in Division I in the state job interview career development event at Ohio State University. This CDE allows students to have a job interview for any agriculture job.
