HARPSTER — A committee from Harpster United Methodist Church distributed 60 sack lunches to farmers in the community last Tuesday as part of an outreach program to serve farmers.

COLUMBUS — Two teams from the Upper Sandusky FFA recently placed 11th at the state level in the annual soil judging competition.

NELSONVILLE — Earlier this month, the Upper Sandusky FFA took eighth place out of 37 teams and 239 individuals in the state forestry career development event at Hocking College, Nelsonville.

FINDLAY — Ohio’s hunters have the opportunity to pursue wild turkeys during a seven-week season from Saturday through Nov. 27. Gobblers and hens are legal game during the fall wild turkey season.

COLUMBUS — Portions of Holmes and Wayne counties will retain their designation as disease surveillance areas again this year as part of the state’s ongoing chronic wasting disease surveillance efforts, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Farm Bureau Federation has named the newest members of its Young Agricultural Professionals state committee. They are Dustin and Casey Converse of Richwood, Elizabeth Long of London, Brandi and Wes Montgomery of Washington Court House and Lauren Schwab of Somerville.

FINDLAY — Ohio trappers are invited to participate in a special drawing Saturday for public land beaver and river otter trapping opportunities. A list of public land trapping opportunities available at the lottery is posted at www.wildohio.gov under Controlled Hunting and Trapping Events.

Henry Bils, Jeff Dilley and Connie Iles have been nominated in Local Administrative Area No. 3 in Wyandot County to serve as a committee member for the Farm Service Agency. One person will be elected to serve a three-year term.

WASHINGTON — As farmers begin the fall harvest, the National Farmers Union joined in the effort to promote safe practices on and around the farm during National Farm Safety and Health Week. President Barack Obama designated farm safety week to reaffirm support for programs and practices that promote health and safety on America’s farms.

BUCYRUS — The Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District recently held its annual meeting combined with the Crawford County Farm Bureau. Nathan Brause and Zach Stuckey were elected to the Crawford SWCD board of supervisors for three years with terms beginning Jan. 1.
