COLUMBUS — Chris Baker of Hilliard has been promoted to executive director of Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation, a 501(c) nonprofit, public charitable organization. Established in 1985, the foundation strives for measurable agricultural community improvement in Ohio by supporting projects that focus on agricultural education, the environment and economic growth in rural, suburban and urban areas.

The latest meeting of the Pipetown 4-H Club recently took place at the Wyandot County Fairgrounds with 11 members and three guests present. Old business discussed included a report on how well livestock interviews went and how many of the members participated in the Skillathon this year.

FINDLAY — Dr. Deborah Fitzgerald, a technology history professor in Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Science, Technology, and Society Program, will speak about the industrialization of agriculture at 7 p.m. Thursday in the University of Findlay’s Martin Lecture Hall, located in the Brewer Frost Science Center.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Applications from soybean farmers are being accepted through Thursday for Conservation Legacy Awards, a program of the American Soybean Association. Winners will get a trip to the 2017 Commodity Classic in San Antonio, Texas.

The Ohio Department of Transportation is asking for the public’s help in creating new habitats for monarch butterflies by collecting milkweed seed pods from plants established between Sept. 1 and Oct. 30 and dropping them off at collection sites across the state.

Two current supervisors for the Wyandot Soil and Water Conservation District have been re-elected to another three-year term. Larry Passet and Jeff Fox were re-elected Thursday night at the annual meeting of the SWCD. They were two of three candidates seeking election.

Rick and Kim Daniel are the Wyandot Soil and Conservation District’s 2016 Cooperators of the Year.

Three candidates will seek two seats on the Wyandot Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors with terms beginning Jan. 1. An election will take place in conjunction with the annual banquet Thursday in the Masters’ Building at the Wyandot County Fairgrounds.

KENTON — The Ohio No-Till Summer Field Day is slated for Aug. 31 at the Jon Layman farm, located at 15238 Township Road 119, Kenton. The Ohio State University Extension and the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center are the outreach and research arms of the Ohio State University’s College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and will host the event.

The Wyandot County Farm Bureau will host its annual meeting at noon Sunday at John Stewart United Methodist, 130 W. Johnson St., Upper Sandusky. A buffet lunch catered by Special Occasions will begin at 12:30 p.m.
