Upper Sandusky senior Rene’ Vent has received a $1,000 scholarship from Schmidt Machine Company for the 2015-16 scholarship year. As an approved national FFA scholarship sponsor and in cooperation with AGCO, Schmidt Machine Company presented the scholarship to Vent at the Upper Sandusky High School FFA banquet Thursday.

COLUMBUS — Cy Prettyman of New Bloomington has been elected treasurer of the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation. Prettyman now holds the third highest elected office in the state’s largest and most influential farm and food organization, according to a press release from the Ohio Farm Bureau.

Wildlife council approves hunting regulations

COLUMBUS — The 2016-17 hunting and trapping seasons were among the regulations approved by the Ohio Wildlife Council at its meeting Wednesday, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. White-tailed deer hunting season changes include moving the two-day gun season to Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 17-18, and muzzleloader season to Jan. 7-10.

Beginning birding classes offered in NW Ohio

FINDLAY — The Ohio Ornithological Society is accepting registrations for guided beginner bird tours during the International Migratory Bird Day weekend, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. The OOS, in cooperation with the ODNR Division of Wildlife, will conduct guided bird walks May 14 and 15 at Magee Marsh Wildlife Area.
