SRWC to benefit from dinner

A Bob Evans community fundraiser to benefit the Sandusky River Watershed Coalition will take place from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. March 17 at the Tiffin, Fostoria, Upper Sandusky, Fremont and Bucyrus Bob Evans restaurants. Those who present the event flier will have 15 percent of their sales donated to the watershed coalition by Bob Evans.

Crop insurance deadline nears in Ohio, other states

SPRINGFIELD, Ill., Feb. 29, 2016 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Risk Management Agency is reminding Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio producers that the final date to apply for insurance coverage on spring barley, Burley tobacco, cabbage, corn, cucumbers, dry beans, forage seeding, grain sorghum, green peas, hybrid seed corn, oats, popcorn, potatoes, processing beans, processing pumpkins, processing sweet corn, processing tomatoes, soybeans and sugarbeets is March 15.

Riverdale FFA keeps busy with events

MOUNT BLANCHARD — The Riverdale FFA chapter has been busy with a variety of activities. The chapter recently had a visit from Ohio FFA president at large Madison Sheahan, who conducted leadership workshops in all classes. She focused on opportunities in the FFA, stereotypes and how to leave a mark on the chapter. She also joined officers for a potluck lunch.

Annual banquet set for March 12

The Wyandot County chapter of Pheasants Forever will host its annual banquet beginning at 5:30 p.m. March 12 at the Elks Lodge in Upper Sandusky. The banquet will include raffles, prizes and a benefit auction. Tickets are $55 per person or $70 per couple. Best of the Buckeye Ohio Beef Expo nominations due March 1

MARYSVILLE — The Ohio Beef Expo is quickly approaching, and Best of the Buckeye cattle that are nominated for the event prior to March 1 will incur a $25 per head nomination fee. Cattle may be nominated up until the Ohio Beef Expo for an increased late nomination fee of $75 and may be nominated for both the Ohio Beef Expo and the Ohio State Fair by March 1 for a rate of $40.

Funding available for farmers in Ohio to improve water quality

REYNOLDSBURG — The next round of funding now is available through the Regional Conservation Partnership Program, as part of a tri-state, five-year, $17.5 million program funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The goal of the program is to reduce nutrients and harmful algal blooms in Lake Erie by assisting farmers in installing conservation practices that benefit water quality in the western basin of Lake Erie.

McCutchenville operator named top agronomist at WinField Summit program

McCUTCHENVILLE — David Brodman of Heritage Cooperative recently was honored for being in the top tier of sales agronomists from across the country through the WinField Summit program. A 1976 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School, Brodman furthered his education with an agricultural degree from Ohio State University Agricultural Technical Institute in Wooster.
