The Wyandot Soil and Water Conservation District is offering a scholarship to Wyandot County youth who have been accepted or currently are enrolled in an accredited college for fall 2016 and hold a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

The Wyandot County Soil and Water Conservation District had a busy year in 2015 and already is planning just as much or more activity over the next 12 months.

The Wyandot County Farm Service Agency is reminding farmers and landowners that the next general enrollment period for the Conservation Reserve Program has started and will end Feb. 26. As of September, 24.2 million acres across the nation were enrolled in CRP.

REYNOLDSBURG — In 2015, the Ohio Department of Agriculture recognized 114 new century or bicentennial farms owned by the same family for at least 100 or 200 consecutive years. There now are more than 1,200 farms registered across the state in the Ohio’s Historic Family Farms program.

DULUTH, Ga. — Schmidt Machine Company has announced it will sponsor a $1,000 national FFA scholarship for the 2015-16 scholarship year for an Upper Sandusky High School student. The scholarship, which is being offered in cooperation with AGCO, is available through a program introduced in 2011 that provides more that 115 scholarships through more than 50 Massey Ferguson and Gleaner dealers across the United States.

COLUMBUS — Hunters checked 12,505 white-tailed deer during Ohio’s muzzleloader season Jan. 9-12, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. During last year’s muzzleloader season, 13,724 white-tailed deer were checked.

Two teams from the Upper Sandusky High School FFA recently competed in this year’s state parliamentary procedure competitions. The advanced parliamentary team is reserved for older members and consisted of the Upper Sandusky FFA officers.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — The Riverdale FFA chapter recently hosted a ceremony for its first- and second-year members, recognizing 10 eighth-graders who earned discovery degrees and nine freshmen who earned greenhand degrees.

COLUMBUS — Ohio hunters checked 9,447 white-tailed deer during Ohio’s two-day deer-gun hunting season Dec. 28-29, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

The Wyandot County Farm Service Agency is seeking applications for the position of minority adviser on its county committee or COC. FSA county committee advisers are a valued voice for under-represented groups and socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers, according to the FSA.
