COLUMBUS — Ohio hunters checked 9,447 white-tailed deer during Ohio’s two-day deer-gun hunting season Dec. 28-29, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

The Wyandot County Farm Service Agency is seeking applications for the position of minority adviser on its county committee or COC. FSA county committee advisers are a valued voice for under-represented groups and socially disadvantaged farmers and ranchers, according to the FSA.

The Upper Sandusky High School FFA program recently sold T-shirts to benefit the Cory Hardymon family. Cory is a USHS student who is undergoing treatments for leukemia. Members of Anna Creswell’s fifth period agriculture class are pictured displaying the shirts that were sold.

CAREY — Three members of the Carey FFA chapter recently received American FFA degrees. Degree recipients were Laine Wentling, Anthony Blair and Russell Phillips.

Producers who chose coverage from the Agriculture Risk Coverage or the Price Loss Coverage programs were able to visit FSA county offices beginning Dec. 7 to sign contracts to enroll for coverage for 2016. The enrollment period will continue until Aug. 1.

FINDLAY — Ohio’s 2015 deer-gun season continues Dec. 28-29, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. During the Dec. 28-29 firearm season, all hunters (except waterfowl hunters) must wear a vest, coat, jacket or coveralls that either are solid hunter orange or camouflage hunter orange.

Richard Huston has been elected to represent farmers from Local Administrative Area No. 1, which consists of Crawford, Ridge, Sycamore and Tymochtee townships, on the Farm Service Agency county committee. Huston was elected to his first term.

COLUMBUS — Hunters checked 73,399 white-tailed deer during Ohio’s 2015 deer-gun hunting season, Nov. 30 to Dec. 6, according to a release from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. This represents a significant increase over last year’s harvest of 65,484 deer.

Members of the Carey FFA chapter recently participated in the job interview career development event. For the competition, participants created a resume and cover letter, filled out a job application, interviewed for a job of their choice and wrote a follow-up letter.

All producers are reminded that the acreage reporting date for fall seeded crops has changed and the acreage reporting date is Dec. 15. This applies to all fall seeded crops, including fall barley, fall wheat and all other fall-seeded small grains.
