WASHINGTON — Wyandot County is one of 68 Ohio counties designated as a primary natural disaster area from losses due to inclement weather conditions that occurred during the period of March 1 through Aug. 25, according to a press release issued Friday by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

A member of the Upper Sandusky FFA will represent her school and district Saturday at the state job interviewing career development event. Hannah Ziegler, an Upper Sandusky High School sophomore, placed first and will head to the state contest this weekend for the job interviewing CDE.

Four candidates are running for a single seat on the county committee of the Wyandot County Farm Service Agency. Nearly 7,700 FSA county committee members serve FSA offices nationwide.

Drainage ditches are vital to dealing with rainfall in Wyandot County, according to the Wyandot Soil and Water Conservation District, which currently inspects and maintains 111 ditch and tile projects to help drain house lots and farm ground and prevent erosion during rain events.

DELAWARE — Eleven Ohio FFA chapters, including one with Wyandot County students, were chosen to receive $500 grants to participate in the Ohio Small Grains Marketing Program’s nutritional-awareness campaign, the Food for Thought challenge.

The Wyandot Soil and Water Conservation District has collected rainfall information during the growing season every year since 1978, when Heidelberg University requested participation in its rainfall monitoring network. This year from April through October, 23 volunteers in different areas of the county reported rainfall to the Wyandot SWCD.

The Upper Sandusky FFA recently attended the 88th national FFA convention. All the Wyandot County chapters, including Mohawk, Carey and Riverdale, traveled together to Louisville, Kentucky.

COLUMBUS — Deer hunting is a popular activity for sportsmen and women statewide and Ohio’s white-tailed deer continue to provide hunters across the state with excellent opportunities for success as they head out into the field, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

MOUNT BLANCHARD — The FFA chapter from Riverdale High School will be showcased Saturday through Monday on “This Week In AgriBusiness,” a weekly, one-hour television agri-news program hosted by two of the country’s most well-known farm broadcasters, Max Armstrong and Orion Samuelson.

LUCAS — A team of FFA students from Upper Sandusky High School placed second in the state at the soil judging contest Oct. 17 near Malabar Farm in Richland County to qualify for the national contest in Oklahoma in May.
