A property in rural Upper Sandusky suffered major structural damage from a fire late Thursday night. The Carey and Upper Sandusky fire departments were dispatched at 10:33 p.m. Thursday after visible flames were seen on a barn and tractor on a property on the west side of CH 112 just north of CH 44.

For the 20th year in a row, The First Citizens National Bank is presenting Wyandot Memorial Hospital’s Comedy Night to help with priority patient-related projects at WMH. Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks No. 83, First Federal Bank, Kimmel Corporation, Beerco, Delta Dental of Ohio, Morral Excavating and Wilson Tire Co. are co-sponsoring the annual wintertime event scheduled for Jan. 19 and featuring headliner comedian Andy Hendrickson.

FINDLAY — The Marathon Center for the Performing Arts will be holding auditions for Youtheatre’s production of “Honk! Jr.” Auditions are open to students in first through fifth grades including an on-stage cast of no more than 50 students in addition to positions on the production’s technical crew.

After a lengthy investigation into breaking and entering and grand theft of a firearm from a federally licensed firearms dealer, three juvenile suspects have been arrested and charged for the incident. Because the suspects are juveniles, the names are not being released.

The filing deadline for party candidates for the city of Upper Sandusky and the village of Carey is Feb. 6. Independent candidates must file their petitions by May 6. Other villages, township trustees and local school board members must file their petitions by Aug. 7.

MARSEILLES — There will be a recycling drive from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Marseilles Park. Notice that the recycling has been changed to the first Saturday of the odd months.

Regina Vent, broker and owner of Regina Vent Realty LLC, was awarded Realtor of the Year at the Heartland Board of Realtors holiday luncheon in Findlay. Considerations for this award include involvement on the local board, for which she served as the 2018 president, and service at the Ohio Association of Realtors, civic activities and business and educational experience.

The Wyandot County Commissioners and Ohio Department of Transportation are seeking public comment in a meeting at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 17 at the Wyandot County Courthouse. The meeting will discuss ODOT’s recent decision to close the CH 50 and CH 121 intersections on the U.S. 23/U.S. 30 corridor north of Upper Sandusky.

Marseilles Village Council met in special session Dec. 26. In old business, Holcomb Excavating will be working on the village drains when the weather permits, Phillips Lawn Care will be mowing the village park next year for the same price as this year and the Wyandot County Mayor’s Breakfast will be held on March 12, 2019, at the Angle Back Just One More in Marseilles.

Voting has concluded for the top 10 stories of 2018 in Wyandot County among the staff at the Daily Chief-Union, and there are a wide variety of topics this year with a mix of both good and bad news. A team of six employees of the DC-U voted on their top picks, with the focus being on topics that had the most impact on Wyandot County residents.
