SANDUSKY — Firelands Counseling and Recovery Services is welcoming Scott Williams, LPCC-S, to work in the Upper Sandusky and Tiffin branches providing mental health and substance abuse services. In Tiffin, he will be facilitating the intensive outpatient program involving the patient in a weekly, nine-hour process designed to support them with their recovery from alcohol or other drug addiction.

SYCAMORE — The Mohawk Board of Education was introduced to its most recently hired employee at Tuesday’s monthly meeting. Guidance counselor Angie McGinnis brought Luna, a golden retriever puppy in training for the Assistance Dogs for Achieving Independence program.

Upper Sandusky City Council heard from concerned residents at its meeting on Monday. Bill Gillen Jr., a resident of the Rivers Edge Subdivision in Upper Sandusky read a letter to council.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristjen Nielsen recently received an open letter from members of the Business Roundtable, including CEOs of Apple, PepsiCo and other major American employers. These business leaders expressed grave concern about chilling effects the Trump administration’s policies are creating among much-needed immigrant workers in many industries.

John McCain was a good man, but please remember, he got to come home and live out a full life, get married and have children, and thousands of our boys never get to come home to live a full life. They are our heroes. This is how I feel about the way he got such a big sendoff. Remember all our kids that never got home alive.

The Farm Service Agency has announced people nominated in Local Administrative Area 1 in Wyandot County to serve as a committee member. LAA No. 1 consists of Crawford, Ridge, Tymochtee and Sycamore townships. Ballots will be mailed Nov. 5 and need returned to the Wyandot County FSA office by Dec. 3.

The Upper Sandusky Exempted Village Schools Board of Education heard from concerned students and parents about the dress code and issues with heat and air conditioning during its meeting on Monday. Heat indexes were in the upper 90s the final week of August, causing many schools in the state to close, although Upper Sandusky schools remained open.
