Members of the Wyandot County Special Olympics team were given a heroes’ welcome Thursday with an escort through downtown Sycamore provided by the Sycamore Volunteer Fire Department.

Wyandot County residents are opening their homes and gardens to the public for a good cause early next month. The second annual home and garden tour takes place from 1-6 p.m. July 8 and will feature four area homes and two gardens in the county.

The Wyandot County Veterans Commission held its monthly meeting at its new office on Wednesday. Wyandot County Veterans Service Officer Theresa Miller said the commission will participate in the upcoming Carey Fest parade.

The Wyandot County Solid Waste Management District and Recycling Center has recently been informed that its 2018 Community Development Grant application has been approved for a total of $130,516. The WCSWMD and Recycling Center applied for an Ohio EPA grant in January 2018 looking to replace its International Baler that was originally purchased in 2005.

The Steer Barn hosted a Business After Hours Thursday afternoon. Those who attended got the chance to enjoy time with friends of the Wyandot County Chamber of Commerce and sample new appetizers that are being considered for the Steer Barn menu.

The Ohio State University at Marion recently welcomed Student Success Counselor Michelle McKinniss to the staff. As a newly-created position in the Office of Student Retention, McKinniss will work to create student success initiatives, working directly with students to overcome barriers to growth and success.
