Pharmacy Tech Deb Bjorling, of Carey, retired last week from Wyandot Memorial Hospital after working more than 31 years in the pharmacy department. Her co-workers celebrated the milestone with cake, and her sister presented her with a framed photo showing Bjorling at her mother’s retirement party in the very same cafeteria in 1991.

Businesses honored for no injuries in past year

Twenty-one employers in Wyandot County have earned recognition from the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation for reaching a year without workplace injuries or illnesses that kept workers away from work for more than a day. The employers received BWC’s 100 Percent Award during the Wyandot County Safety Council’s annual awards ceremony.

Sycamore Fire Department gets pair of grants

SYCAMORE — Fire Chief Rodney Clinger reported the Sycamore Volunteer Fire Department was recently awarded a pair of grants at Tuesday’s village council meeting. Clinger said the department received a BWC grant for $30,919.24 for a Stryker mechanized cot, which will assist with lifting and lowering cots and should help with back injuries.

Upper advances to Envirothon state contest

A total of 43 teams from across Northwest Ohio competed in the 2018 Area 1 Envirothon competition recently at the Blue Creek Conservation Area in Whitehouse. The Area 1 Envirothon consists of Allen, Auglaize, Crawford, Defiance, Fulton, Hancock, Hardin, Henry, Lucas, Marion, Morrow, Ottawa, Paulding, Putnam, Sandusky, Seneca, Van Wert and Wyandot counties.
