Mohawk graduate lauded as hero When 2007 Mohawk graduate and Tiffin police officer Justin Nowak was the first on scene at a house fire in the early morning of June 17, he didn’t hesitate to put his life on the line to save another. According to Nowak he was at the station around 2:30 a.m. when a call came out about a house fire at a residence in the 200 block of Wentz Street in Tiffin. The caller said she couldn’t get out of the house, but as she was communicating with dispatch, the connection was lost, because of fast growing fire. Read More
ODOT updates scheduled projects in Wyandot County The Ohio Department of Transportation recently announced the following is highway construction scheduled to occur within Wyandot County. Work is dependent upon weather conditions. U.S. 23 between CH 97 and the U.S. 30 interchange, north of Upper Sandusky, will be restricted to one lane in each direction through the work zone for pavement resurfacing. Variable speed limit signs will be in place to display the legal, posted speed limit through the work zone. Read More
Christmas in July It was a sea of red and green as the Wyandot County Council on Aging celebrated Christmas in July Thursday afternoon with a special Christmas-themed lunch in Upper Sandusky. Attendees enjoyed turkey cranberry sliders and frozen hot chocolate as well as unique shortbread Christmas cookies from Neumeisters, which were decorated by Mandy Baldwin and Amy Gardner to look like Santa buried in sand at the beach. Safety blotter: July 26, 2019 An officer assisted the Upper Sandusky Fire Department with a fire alarm at Fairhaven Community the early morning of July 25 until he was no longer needed. The Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office reported a private property accident at Speedway West the early morning of July 25. A semi trailer struck a parking pole. 3 arrested in Upper drug bust Three men were arrested in a residential drug bust Tuesday afternoon in rural Upper Sandusky. A press release from the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office states a residential search warrant was executed at 2:36 p.m. Tuesday after a four-week investigation into drug trafficking by the sheriff’s office and the METRICH Enforcement Unit.
