Upper Sandusky BOE hires former Riverdale softball coach Upper Sandusky hired former Riverdale coach Luke Swavel as its softball coach at Monday evening’s board of education meeting. Upper gets $238,000 grant for fire truck The burden on Upper Sandusky taxpayers for a fire truck upgrade was just reduced drastically. City auditor Mark Droll announced at last night’s council meeting that the United States Department of Agriculture had approved a grant-loan package to help cover the cost of a 2012 Pierce 100-foot SkyArm Arrow XT ladder truck, which the city agreed to purchase for $680,000 in late July. Carey holds moment of silence for former councilwoman Kurtz CAREY — Carey Council opened its regular meeting Monday by dedicating its regular moment of silence in honor of the late Lois Kurtz. Kurtz died Aug. 11 at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. She was 63. She was a longtime council member in addition to serving on the Carey Post Office, Carey Emergency Medical Services and Carey Kiwanis. She was the owner of Kurtz Shoe Store. Read More
