Olds, Fahle advance in DC-U Madness hoop shoot contest

Upper Sandusky Police Chief David “Dunkin’ Donuts” Olds drained three shots in a row with five seconds on the clock to beat Wyandot County Prosecutor Doug “Hillbilly with a Law Degree” Rowland, and Upper Sandusky High School girls basketball coach “Jolly” Brent Fahle edged out Mohawk boys hoops coach Paul “Prodigal Son” Dunn in a 19-17 shootout in the DC-U Madness hoop shoot tournament Tuesday. Olds, representing the Law Enforcement Region, and Coach’s Region winner Fahle will go head-to-head in Monday’s Final Four of The Daily Chief-Union’s bracket-style arcade basketball shooting contest and canned food drive to benefit Wyandot County food pantries.

Sycamore to spend $78,000 on firefighters protective gear

SYCAMORE — Sycamore Village Council on Monday voted to spend $78,900 to replace outdated protective gear for firefighters. “These are the ladies and gentlemen who go to our homes to put out fires and their gear is outdated,” Sycamore Council President Tony Flood said. “We are putting our firefighters in harms way by not having the proper gear and it’s good news that we have the money to do it.”

USDA offers disaster assistance to farmers in Wyandot County

The USDA recently designated Crawford, Marion and Seneca counties as primary natural disaster areas due to losses and damages caused by drought that occurred from June 1 through Oct. 4. Farmers in Delaware, Hancock, Hardin, Huron, Morrow, Richland, Sandusky, Union, Wood and Wyandot counties also qualify for natural disaster assistance because their counties are contiguous.

Riverdale Board of Education considers EpiPen use in school

MOUNT BLANCHARD — The Riverdale Board of Education will be considering a new policy for the administering of epinephrine auto-injectors – or EpiPens – to students in an emergency. At Monday’s regular meeting, Superintendent Eric Hoffman updated the board on a new policy regarding EpiPens that was being added to the list of policies to be reviewed by the board.
