Thirty area businesses, nonprofit organizations and agencies participated in the annual business showcase Thursday to kick off Carey Fest in the pavilion at Waterworks Park.

Farm Bureau offers class on preserving

The Wyandot County Farm Bureau will offer a free class on canning and freezing vegetables for members of the public. The workshop will focus on what to do with extra vegetables from gardens, how to take advantage of grocery store produce sales and best ways to store vegetables.

Nutrient kits offered

The Wyandot County Farm Bureau and the Wyandot Soil and Water Conservation District are teaming up to offer manure nutrient sampling kits to the first 35 Farm Bureau members who request them. Manure nutrient sampling kits are available at the Wyandot SWCD office, 97 Houpt Drive., No. 1, Upper Sandusky.

Deputies respond to calls

Douglas J. Rowe, Trenton, Michigan, was traveling northbound on U.S. 23 in a 2005 Freightliner semitrailer June 29 when he went left of center and struck James W. Hambleton, Bellville, who was traveling northbound in a 2001 Ford Mustang.

Sycamore couple to voice concerns over treatment for Confederate flag

SYCAMORE — A Sycamore couple plans to address council at a regular meeting tonight to voice their displeasure with a letter they received from village solicitor Jim Gucker about their Confederate flag. Raymond and Christina Leimgruber said Monday they were unfairly targeted and asked to remove the Confederate flag from their front porch at 330 N. Kilborn St.

Carey EVS forms legacy committee

CAREY — Peter Cole, the junior and senior high school principal of Carey Exempted Village Schools, told the board of education about a legacy committee that has formed at the board meeting Monday night. Cole discussed several ideas of how to incorporate old trophies and old record boards into the new school that will be filled with students next year.
