CAREY — After purchasing 390 Chromebooks and 13 charging carts last summer, the Carey Exempted Village School board approved the purchase of 300 more computers with cases for $92,400 at the board meeting Monday night.

NEVADA — After some debate, the village of Nevada decided to renew its food vendor license for the year during Monday night’s council meeting.

Several vehicles were reported broken into Friday morning in the Ohio Cat parking lot in the 1800 block of East Wyandot Avenue, Upper Sandusky, and deputies responded to reports of vandalism to vehicles Saturday morning in the village of Wharton in separate incidents.

Two runaway teens from Wyandot County suspected of several crimes across Ohio and Pennsylvania were apprehended in New Martinsville, West Virginia, after a more than two-day standoff with authorities in the Pennsylvania hills, Sheriff Mike Hetzel confirmed Saturday.

SYCAMORE — Shirley Hufford has been a teacher at Mohawk Local Schools for 31 years. With most of it being with special education, Hufford said she has loved the kids and has seen a lot of them succeed in life.

Activities for the St. Peter School summer festival will take place Friday and Saturday, starting with a 5K glow run and walk at Upper Sandusky’s Stepping Stones Park. Pre-festival activities include the run and walk, which starts at 8:45 p.m. Friday.

HARPSTER — One Energy Wind for Industry, Findlay, is funding more than $3 million for a wind turbine project at the location of Marathon Petroleum Company’s Harpster pump station. The turbine will generate more than 4 million kilowatt-hours annually and will offset more than half of the station’s electric consumption, according to a press release from One Energy.

TOLEDO — The bus had no traffic to deal with early Thursday morning as Wyandot County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center marketing director Vicki Charlton drove to Sycamore, Bucyrus and Upper Sandusky to pick up five area veterans and their guardians for a special trip. Eddie Doss and his daughter Deb Kuhn, Bob Keller and his son Jay Keller, Flavel Heyman, Earl Kinley and his daughter Becky Howard and Wes Honsberger traveled to Findlay and meet with a much larger group for the Flag City Honor Flight.

Wyandot County’s own Frank Zamora will head to Columbus after winning a district-wide contest that required maneuvering a truck and loader through obstacle courses in an event hosted by the Ohio Department of Transportation. Zamora has worked at the Wyandot County ODOT garage for many years.

Jared Reichbaum is on a mission. He walked into Upper Sandusky Thursday evening, camped at Lincoln Hills Golf Course and spent Friday taking a break from his journey to play a few rounds of golf, after seven days of walking about 120 miles.
