Raise the roof

Sheriff’s office, local PDs continue to combat heroin

Brett E. Hoffbauer, Fostoria, was cited for possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle the night of May 8 after a traffic stop on CH 47 near CH 107. Katherine M. Koehler, Sycamore, was traveling southbound on Ohio 231 near CH 36 in a 2011 Volkswagon Jetta the morning of May 12 when she struck a deer.

Residents, canoe enthusiasts want action after deaths at low-head dam

A rural Upper Sandusky couple visited city council Monday evening to express concern over a dangerous low-head dam that has been the site of three boating fatalities in the past two and a half years. Mike and Karen Gillen said they live near the problem area on the Sandusky River and wanted to know what will be done to warn canoers and kayakers about the low-head dam.

Council hears 1st reading for garbage truck purchase

Upper Sandusky City Council heard the first reading of an ordinance authorizing the purchase of a garbage truck during its regular meeting Monday evening after years of planning. The 2016 Mack cab and chassis and Leach garbage packer plus accessories will be purchased through a federal purchasing program, according to the ordinance, and include a trade-in of $30,000 for a total purchase price of $168,169.62.

Auditor: City’s finances ‘solid’

The Upper Sandusky auditor described the city’s financial state as “solid” Monday night following a budget hearing for the 2016 calendar year with city council members. City auditor Mark Droll said in the most recent budget, he tried to get some estimates closer to recent actual amounts.

ResponsibleOhio: 664 sign petitions in Wyandot County

A group advocating for the reform of marijuana laws in the state of Ohio says 664 Wyandot County residents signed petitions to qualify the issue for the November ballot. ResponsibleOhio’s Marijuana Legalization Amendment proposes to legalize marijuana for medical use and personal use by adults ages 21 and older in Ohio.
