FSA director: Enrollment for dairy program began July 1

Starting July 1, dairy farmers were able to enroll in the Margin Protection Program for coverage in 2016. The voluntary program, established by the 2014 farm bill, provides financial assistance to participating dairy operations when the margin — the difference between the price of milk and feed costs — falls below the coverage level selected by the farmer.

Annual lottery underway for beginning fish-flying

FINDLAY — Anglers interested in learning the art of fly fishing and practicing their skills on a half-mile section of Cold Creek at the Castalia State Fish Hatchery in Erie County are encouraged to enter a lottery for beginning fly-fishing clinics, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Tree workshop slated

COLUMBUS — The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences will offer a tree diagnostic workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Mansfield campus, located at 1260 University Drive.

Amber D. Chapman, Upper Sandusky, was cited for driving under suspension and a stop sign violation the evening of May 21 after a traffic stop on Ohio 53. Michel T. Estes, Marion, was arrested on a warrant from the Upper Sandusky Municipal Court the night of May 24 on an original charge of driving under suspension.

Road closed

Road work

East Wyandot Avenue between Wilson’s Grocery and Pilot Travel Center was closed for several hours Monday for grinding of a rough portion of road at the intersection of Malabar Drive. Upper Sandusky streets supervisor Allen Boes said the road will be closed again Wednesday morning, weather permitting, for paving.

Wynford BOE work through, approve staff changes for year

BUCYRUS — The Wynford Local School District Board of Education approved the hiring and resignations of several faculty members during its monthly meeting Monday. Superintendent Steve Mohr reported health and physical education teacher and head softball coach, Catherine Richman, kindergarten teacher Trista Baker, and fifth grade teacher, Michelle Howard and school nurse Joyce Cramer had offered their resignations.

Commissioners get JFS financials

The Wyandot County Board of Commissioners heard a monthly update from Wyandot County Department of Job and Family Services Director Jason Fagan on Monday. Fagan reported that JFS ended the state fiscal year in a good financial position at the end of June.

Dinner successful for Nevada project

NEVADA — Nevada Mayor Ken Kerr reported to village council Monday that a porkchop dinner and picnic hosted at the community park over the weekend sold around 100 tickets and raised approximately $500. Kerr thanked councilman Jeff Kindley and all of those who helped out for their hard work and efforts.

Carey BOE adds classrooms to project

CAREY — The Carey Exempted Village Schools board approved an amendment with architects Fanning/Howey Associates adding four new classrooms to the new school in a meeting Monday night. The board previously approved the addition of four more classrooms in the new building, but approved an amendment setting the revised amount for the project at a little more than $2.6 million Monday.
