Frey, Loveridge win titles

ARCADIA — Wayne Frey and Aidan Loveridge won championships, and Riverdale finished seventh among 13 teams Saturday in the Arcadia Invitational. Montpelier was the champion with 261 points, with Elmwood second with 188 points. The Falcons finished with 128 points.

Mohawk goes 3-2 at Hopewell

BASCOM — Mohawk went 3-2 and finished fourth Saturday in the Hopewell-Loudon Dual Invitational. The Warriors beat Hopewell-Loudon, 50-21, and Indian Lake, 42-36, and lost to Cloverleaf, 42-37, and to champion Napoleon, 49-27. Results from Mohawk’s other match were not available.

3 Carey wrestlers finish in 2nd

BELLEVUE — Carey’s Jevyn Pratt, Cody Ferguson and Marcus O’Flaherty all were runners-up as the Blue Devils took seventh in the Bob Bailey Invitational on Saturday at Bellevue. Oak Harbor was the winner with 344 points, well ahead of second-place Steele with 207 points. Carey finished with 127 points.

Upper turns up defensive pressure to run away from Ridgedale

Upper Sandusky coach Jeff Winslow reminded the Rams defense all night to keep the Ridgedale ball handlers contained to the sides of the court. The result was a flurry of turnovers and easy buckets, as the Rams controlled the tempo from the start in a 73-49 win over the Rockets and moved to 2-0 in the Northern 10 Athletic Conference.

Blue Devils hold off Warriors, 44-42

CAREY — Defense won the night and it won the game for Carey against county rival Mohawk on Friday night. The Warriors had a chance to tie or take the lead in the final seconds, but the Blue Devils deflected the ball and did not allow a shot attempt, coming away with a 44-42 victory.

Riverdale senior and four-year letterwinner Taylor Frey made plays down the stretch of a Blanchard Valley Conference game at Liberty-Benton on Thursday to help the Falcons pull away and preserve a 63-54 win.

Diebler off to good start with his new team

ISTANBUL, Turkey — Upper Sandusky High School graduate Jon Diebler is off to a strong start with his new team, Anadolu Efes. The Ohio State University graduate has made 53.8 percent of his 3-point shots and is second on the team in scoring, averaging 12.6 points through nine games in Euroleague play.
