CAREY — Wynford held the lead for less than a minute in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys basketball game at Carey on Saturday. Still, it escaped with a 54-52 win and took over sole possession of fourth place in the league, thanks to a second-half surge.

The last time Upper Sandusky played Bucyrus, a slow second quarter allowed the Redmen back in the game, and the Rams held on for a four-point win. Saturday, the Rams ran up the score in the second quarter on their way to a 58-44 win at home.

VAN BUREN — Carey’s Marcus O’Flaherty won the 220-pound championship of the Van Buren Invitational to lead area wrestlers Saturday. The Blue Devils finished 10th with 89.5 points, while Mohawk was 12th with 84 points.

SYCAMORE — Coming into Saturday’s game, Mohawk had all the momentum. The Warriors had won six of their last eight games, while Seneca East had lost four of its last five in the Northern 10 Athletic Conference.
