TOLEDO — Mohawk took another step forward in rebuilding its wrestling program to elite level Saturday. The Warriors qualified three wrestlers to state — Daniel Price, Parker Brown and Cole Draper — and Draper earned the team’s first district championship in 13 years during Division III competition at Waite.

FOSTORIA — Thurston Dyer won his first match in Saturday’s Division II district wrestling meet to qualify for the state wrestling tournament for a third time. Noah Clary will join him in Columbus.

GIBSONBURG — Carey had its revenge for a moment. With 0.3 seconds left in a Division IV district final rematch with Fostoria St. Wendelin, Sydney Wentling lobbed a sideout inbound pass to Shelby Kin. In one motion, Kin caught the ball on the block, turned and banked in a shot. At first it counted. Then it didn’t.

LIMA — Sometimes one momentum swing is all you need. For Upper Sandusky, it came in the form of a technical foul against coach Jeff Winslow late in the first half.

LEXINGTON — Wynford knew from experience that a third game against the same opponent does not always go the same way as the first two times. The Royals exacted revenge on Buckeye Central for a pair of double-digit regular-season losses by beating the Bucks, 67-58, to capture their first sectional championship in five years.

ELIDA — Top-seeded Lima Central Catholic defeated No. 10 Riverdale in a Division III sectional final, 95-37, on Friday. Dantez Walton scored 23 of his 31 points in the first half, and Tre Cobbs added 21 points, including five 3-pointers.

FOSTORIA — Seven Upper Sandusky wrestlers qualified for the district tournament at Fostoria High school this weekend. Six of them have also earned the right to continue that tournament into the second day.

TOLEDO — Mohawk’s Cole Draper (170 pounds), Daniel Price (126) and Parker Brown (152) and Carey’s Jevyn Pratt (120) won twice during Division III wrestling district tournament competition Friday to move within one win of qualifying for the state tournament.

Pre-sale tickets for Upper Sandusky’s Division II district semifinal game will be sold during the school day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday in the Upper Sandusky High School athletic office and from 5-7 p.m. Monday and 3:30-5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

GIBSONBURG — With Fremont St. Joseph focused on trying to contain the Carey inside duo of Shelby Kin and Sydney Kin, it was Sydney Wentling who provided the spark the Lady Blue Devils needed on Thursday. The 5-10 senior knocked down five 3-pointers and scored 21 points, all in the first half, as the Blue Devils built a 25-point lead by halftime and cruised from there to a 74-46 victory in a Division IV district semifinal matchup.
