SHELBY — Not much more could be asked of the Shelby Rotary North Central Ohio Girls All-Star Classic held Sunday at Shelby. Both the underclassman and senior games featured a rally that came down to the wire with a shot at the end that could have changed the game.

McLaughlin tops Koons to win back-to-back titles

In 30 years of the Wyandot Match Game Invitational, there had never been a back-to-back champion. Don McLaughlin changed that Sunday. The Bucyrus native downed Chuck Koons, 663-626, to take his second straight title and third overall in the bowling tournament at Wyandot Lanes.

Rams’ Vent, Winslow take top honors

Following one of the best seasons in school history, Upper Sandusky took top honors on the All-Daily Chief-Union boys basketball team, with the Rams’ Wes Vent being named player of the year and Jeff Winslow earning honors as coach of the year.

McLaughlin reaches title match again

Don McLaughlin is in good position to become the first back-to-back champion in the Match Game Invitational after defeating Chuck Koons, 718-648, on Wednesday night at Wyandot Lanes. McLaughlin took the lead, 216-172, after one game, and added to it with a 267 second game.

13 schools committed to new swim conference

Details still are in the works, but it seems the Upper Sandusky and Wynford swim teams have a league affiliation beginning next year. Several area school have come together to reform the North Central Ohio Swim League, and plans are for a league meet to be held Jan. 28, 2017 at Colonel Crawford High School.

Upper Sandusky High School senior Tommy Martin (center) has committed to play golf at Heidelberg University in Tiffin next year. Martin was a first-team All-Northern 10 Athletic Conference selection this past fall with an average of 41.7 strokes per nine holes.

State placers

Upper Sandusky High School’s Maddy Dyer (left) and Betsy Young both placed Saturday in the 29th annual State Powerlifting Meet at Kenton High School. Dyer, a sophomore competing in her first meet, finished fifth in the 115-pound weight class.
