Upper junior high teams win 3 of 4

Upper Sandusky’s eighth grade girls basketball team raced out to a 20-3 first quarter lead on its way to a 49-19 victory against Bucyrus on Tuesday. Chloe Taylor led the Rams with 12 points, while Jadyn Smalley and Reagan Ward each scored nine.

Wynford takes top spots on All-DC-U football team

Wynford’s Zach Hoffman and Gabe Helbert earned top honors on the All-Daily Chief-Union football team, being voted coach and player of the year, respectively. Seven of Hoffman’s teammates join him on the All-DC-U team, which is voted on by DC-U sports writers. Voters were asked to vote for the top 25 players.

CAREY — Upper Sandusky outscored Carey in every quarter on its way to a 74-61 road win over the Blue Devils on Saturday. Four Rams scored in double figures in the Northern 10 Athletic Conference opener. “They’re the best team in our league, hands down,” Carey coach Jaime Young said.

MORRAL — When foul trouble strikes both teams, the one with the most depth usually wins. That was the case Saturday night when Wynford showed superior bench play to that of Ridgedale in a 64-55 victory to open Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys basketball play Saturday night.

MANSFIELD — Upper Sandusky’s boys took second and the girls were third Saturday in the Friendly House Invitational in Mansfield. Lexington was the girls winner by a large margin with 479 points, with Ontario edging Upper Sandusky, 246-243, for second place.

NORTH ROBINSON — Owen Adams scored 17 points, and Derek Burkhart added 14 as Colonel Crawford defeated Mohawk, 45-31, on Saturday in the Northern 10 Athletic Conference opener for both teams. The Eagles raced out to an early lead, holding Mohawk to three points in the first quarter.

Carey opens season with 2-3 record

FINDLAY — The Carey wrestling team opened its season by going 2-3 and placing 10th in the Findlay Trojan Duals on Saturday. The Blue Devils went 1-2 in preliminary rounds, beating Ottawa-Glandorf, 48-29, and losing to Napoleon, 55-12, and Lima Bath, 47-27.

Riverdale’s Loveridge finishes 2nd at Derr Invite

NORTHWOOD — Aidan Loveridge was runner-up at 160 pounds to lead the Riverdale wrestling team in the season-opening Jim Derr Invitational this weekend at Northwood. Loveridge lost a 13-9 decision to Sylvania Northview’s John Watson in his weight class championship match.

Rams start fast in 79-34 win over Rockets

It was over before it started Friday night in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference girls basketball matchup featuring two teams searching for their first conference win. With an already struggling Ridgedale team coming in to Upper Sandusky short-handed, the Rams took advantage and jumped out to a 21-1 lead after one quarter and cruised to the 79-34 win.
