MOUNT BLANCHARD — On a tough night for Sydney Holderman, the Riverdale girls basketball team struggled to find and connect on good shots. Arlington pushed the Falcons around and face-guarded the junior guard for four quarters, outscoring Riverdale in each eight-minute frame on its way to a 65-48 road win.

Weinandy’s 27 points not enough

BASCOM — Despite trailing by six in the fourth quarter, Mohawk had chances to win Tuesday night, but the Warriors could not secure any needed rebounds. Hopewell-Loudon finished with 22 offensive rebounds, including some key ones down the stretch, and the Chieftains held on for a 43-42 non-conference girls basketball victory.

KANSAS — Carey got off to a fast start and blew out Lakota, 66-19, in its girls basketball season opener. The Blue Devils scored the final 16 points of the first quarter to take a 19-2 lead, and they pushed their advantage to 46-6 by halftime.

Willard’s size slows down Upper

The runnin’ Rams were forced to slow down against a big Willard team Tuesday. The visiting Crimson Flashes punished the Upper Sandusky girls on the glass en route to a 59-48 win in Willard’s season opener.

Cougars pulls away from Royals in 4th quater

BUCYRUS — Wynford’s girls battled through three close quarters against Ashland Crestview on Tuesday night before the visiting Cougars pulled away in the fourth for a comfortable 56-47 win. Renee Stimpert scored 22 points for Crestview, making eight field goals, including four 3-pointers.

TIFFIN — For the second straight season, Mohawk High School graduate Sarah Parker was named an All-American. The Heidelberg University junior was given honorable mention in Division III, making her just the fifth Heidelberg student-athlete to earn All-American honors more than once.
