Girls basketball begins Friday, and there should be a high level of play in the Northern 10 Athletic Conference. All but one team returns its leading scorer, and most teams have all but two or three players returning this season.

The Riverdale FFA hosted a 5K on Nov. 7, with participants giving items for soldier care packages. There were 13 runners, including two U.S. Marines, Jordan Fleming and Montana Kimmel.

Riverdale senior Justin Riegle was named to the All-Ohio boys soccer second team in Division III, released by the Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association on Sunday. Riegle was the Falcons’ leading scorer in 2015 with 15 goals. He also paced the team with 13 assists, contributing either a goal or an assist on more than half of his team’s offensive tallies.

CAREY — Sydney Wentling wants to continue to learn and develop as a basketball player in college. The Carey senior signed a letter of intent Monday to play basketball at Division II Malone University.

CAREY — Shelby Kin will continue to follow in the footsteps of a former Carey volleyball player in college. Kin signed a letter of intent Monday to play Division II volleyball at University of Findlay, where former Blue Devil Hannah Tong currently is on the roster.

The Upper Sandusky Home for the Holidays 5K Fun Run and Corporate Challenge is set for 10 a.m. Dec. 5. The race begins at John Stewart United Methodist Church, 130 W. Johnson St. at the corner of South Seventh Street and ends at the Upper Sandusky Fire Department, 120 N. Seventh St., with a walk back to the church for a Rotary pancake breakfast and awards ceremony.
