GIBSONBURG — With Fremont St. Joseph focused on trying to contain the Carey inside duo of Shelby Kin and Sydney Kin, it was Sydney Wentling who provided the spark the Lady Blue Devils needed on Thursday. The 5-10 senior knocked down five 3-pointers and scored 21 points, all in the first half, as the Blue Devils built a 25-point lead by halftime and cruised from there to a 74-46 victory in a Division IV district semifinal matchup.
WILLARD — Jenna Strayer sat out the regular season matchup between Upper Sandusky and Bellevue. In their Division II district final rematch, her presence was felt.
SHELBY — When the Falcons weren’t shooting well from the outside in Thursday’s Division III district semifinal game against Willard, they took the battle right to Gabi Baldridge and Maddi Crawford. The Crimson Flashes simply made shots at the right times to outlast Riverdale, 58-48.
Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church B defeated Trinity United Church of Christ of McCutchenville, 12-3, before losing 3-2 and 10-4 in Wyandot County church dartball action Thursday.
ELIDA — Riverdale needed a second-half spark. Jackson Hankins was happy to provide it. The senior scored 21 points in the first 12 minutes after the break to put the cap on a 51-33 win over Parkway and push Riverdale into the sectional final.
ELIDA — Carey was overmatched against a bigger, faster Bluffton team. Early on it held its own. Very early on. Sixth-seeded Bluffton turned an 18-13 first-quarter lead into a 47-19 halftime advantage and stayed on the gas through the second half of a 99-34 win in a Division III sectional semifinal Wednesday.
LEXINGTON – Wynford has won some games with its outside shooting, but on Wednesday night, the Royals won in the paint. Led by James Ort’s 18 points and 13 rebounds, the Royals dominated inside, taking a 66-52 victory against Mansfield Christian in a Division IV sectional semifinal game at Lexington.
