LEXINGTON — Taylor Farmer rarely leads Riverdale in scoring, and she did not on Saturday night, but her contributions may have been the most important in the Falcons’ 65-50 victory against Bucyrus in a Division III sectional final game at Lexington.
PEMBERVILLE — Despite their best efforts, the Vanlue Lady Wildcats simply were overmatched against the Carey Blue Devils on Saturday. The two teams traveled to Eastwood High School to compete for a sectional title, and Carey found itself advancing in the tournament with a 67-25 rout of Vanlue.
LEXINGTON — Having played the Crimson Flashes barely a week before, Wynford had an idea of what it would have to do to stay competitive with Willard in a Division III sectional final game Saturday night at Lexington. The Royals did much of what it needed, but they could not find enough offense in a season-ending 43-29 loss.
CAREY — Mohawk has nine, Carey seven and Riverdale two wrestlers in the semifinals of the Division III sectional tournament that began Friday at Carey. The tournament wrestled only championship bracket matches through to the semifinals. Those who have reached that round are assured of placing in the top six and need only one more win to lock up a spot in next weekend’s district tournament.
BUCYRUS — Alex Crall picked up three fouls in less than 12 minutes and Bucyrus was within five points of its cross-town rival late in the second quarter. It just couldn’t keep its early pace. Wynford pulled far ahead in the middle quarters of a 74-51 win Friday. The 23-point victory snapped a three-game skid just in time for the tournament.
BOWLING GREEN — Friday evening’s final race in the Division II district meet at Bowling Green State University’s Cooper Pool was a fitting finish to the Upper Sandusky swim team’s season. The Rams’ boys 400 free relay team of Ryan Outland, Jeran Ward, Jacob Glass and Konner Holloway shaved five and a half seconds off its seed time to finish 12th in 3:39.91 during a day in which the team set multiple personal records — as it did all year long.
BUCYRUS — Colonel Crawford defeated Upper Sandusky, 42-30, in the Northern 10 Athletic Conference eighth grade boys basketball tournament final Thursday.
MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale had a strong second half to finish its regular season with a 55-46 upset of McComb on Friday night. The Panthers (11-9, 5-6 Blanchard Valley Conference) led 9-8 after one quarter and 27-20 at halftime, but the Falcons (5-17, 2-9 BVC) cut the deficit to 34-33 entering the final quarter and then outscored McComb 22-12.
NORTH ROBINSON — Colonel Crawford came out firing early and ran away with a 69-47 victory against Carey in Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys basketball play Friday night.
SYCAMORE — Buckeye Central outscored Mohawk 18-2 in the second quarter to run away with a 62-27 victory in Northern 10 Athletic Conference boys basketball play Friday night.
