Carey takes 3rd, advances to districts

ARLINGTON — Led by Marcus Miller’s 80, the Carey golf team placed third in Division III sectional competition Wednesday at Sycamore Springs Golf Course near Arlington to advance to districts for the first time since 2008. Van Buren captured the sectional title for the 12th straight year, shooting a 321 to win by 26 strokes over Allen East, which shot a 347.

Riverdale shuts out Columbian, 3-0

TIFFIN — Three players scored for Riverdale, as the Falcons defeated Tiffin Columbian, 3-0, in a girls North Central Ohio Soccer Association match Wednesday. Sydney Holderman scored on an assist by Lexie Wright to open up the scoring, and Lexi Bahn and Gabi Rodriguez added tallies in the second half.

Riverdale falls in 3 to Arlington

ARLINGTON — Riverdale volleyball lost its third match in three days Wednesday, falling at Arlington in a Blanchard Valley Conference match, 25-15, 25-20, 25-9. Carrol Pauley had three aces on 12-of-12 serving and nine kills on 25-of-27 hitting as the Falcons’ offensive leader.

WHS to have 2nd annual alum reunion

BUCYRUS — Wynford High School is holding its second annual football alumni reunion at 6 p.m. Oct. 9 before the homecoming game against Seneca East. All former players who graduated from Wynford, coaches and managers are welcome.

CAREY — The Royals came into Carey rolling, but Shelby Kin and the Blue Devils did enough to win in the Northern 10 Athletic Conference for the second day in a row. Kin passed University of Findlay All-American Hannah Tong as the Blue Devils’ all-time kill leader, and Carey held off a stubborn Wynford team in sets one and two to defeat the Royals, 29-27, 25-23, 25-17.

Rams defeat Stockaders

Each time Old Fort made it close, Upper Sandusky answered, taking a 7-4 victory in a boys North Central Ohio Soccer Association match Tuesday. The Rams (4-7-1, 3-3 NCOSA) gave up a 2-0 lead before Taylor Emerick scored his third goal of the first half to give his team a 3-2 advantage 3:53 before the break.

Eagles stay unbeaten in league play with 6-1 win

FINDLAY — Liberty-Benton took command of first place in the girls North Central Ohio Soccer Association with a 6-1 victory against Upper Sandusky on Tuesday. The Eagles (9-2-1, 5-0 NCOSA) gave the Rams (9-2-1, 4-1-1 NCOSA) their first league loss and already have beaten other top contenders, Riverdale (8-2, 4-1 NCOSA) and Van Buren (5-3-1, 2-2 NCOSA), with Cory-Rawson (6-3-2, 3-1-1 NCOSA) the top remaining opponent still on their league schedule.

Lauck makes Falcons winners

FORT JENNINGS — Joe Lauck scored, and Jackson Hankins and Coltyn Miller combined for a shutout in goal as Riverdale took a 1-0 victory Tuesday at Fort Jennings. Lauck scored unassisted with 14:04 left in the first half for the match’s only goal.
