Two Wyandot County Special Olympics athletes will compete in the 26th annual National Unified Bowling Tournament from March 2-4 in Reno, Nevada. Mike Vogel and Kip Shumaker will be joined by their fathers, John Vogel and Bill Shumaker, as unified partners.
BUCYRUS — Upper Sandusky’s boys and girls won big in a quad meet Wednesday at the Bucyrus YMCA. The Rams girls finished with 153 points, with Bucyrus second with 25 points.
TIFFIN — Carey advanced to the regional semifinals of the state dual team tournament with wins of 48-17 against Tiffin Calvert and 41-33 against Van Buren on Wednesday at Calvert. The No. 2 seed Blue Devils won the final three matches against the No. 3 Black Knights to rally from a 33-26 deficit in the Division III Region 18-B quarterfinals.
SYCAMORE — Top-seeded Mohawk won a pair of Region 18-A Wrestling Dual Team Tournament quarterfinal matches Wednesday, defeating No. 9 McComb, 52-15, before taking down No. 4 Hopewell-Loudon, 44-21. The Warriors advance to the regional semifinals to face Northern 10 Athletic Conference rival Carey, the No. 2 seed in Region 18-A, at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
SANDUSKY — Fourth-seeded Upper Sandusky defeated No. 5 Norwalk, 41-27, but was downed, 57-22, by No. 1 Sandusky Perkins in the Division II Region 9 regional quarterfinals Wednesday at Perkins. Matt Luikart (120 pounds), Keegan Gullifer (145) and Connor Johnston (220) were double winners for the Rams.
MARION — Seventh-seeded Riverdale lost to No. 3 Lima Central Catholic, 39-12, in the Division IV Region 24 quarterfinals Wednesday. The Thunderbirds swept seven matches in which they had wrestlers competing, winning six by pin.
SYCAMORE — In the first meeting between Upper Sandusky and Mohawk, the game came down to the wire, with the Rams holding on in the closing seconds. It seemed the second game could be similar.
CAREY — Shelby Kin scored 24 points to lead Carey to a 91-34 win over Ridgedale on Tuesday. The Rockets scored the first points of the game on a 3 by Megan Mulvaine before the Blue Devils stormed ahead, outscoring Ridgedale 25-4 in the first quarter.
