CAREY — Bucyrus came to Carey on Friday night with ideas of spoiling Carey’s perfect season and almost pulled it off. The Redmen simply ran out of gas in the fourth quarter, which saw Carey outscore Bucyrus 23-6 en route to a 76-56 victory to secure at least a share of the Northern 10 Athletic Conference title.
VANLUE — When Riverdale plays solid defense, it gives itself a chance to win. On Friday night, the defense was outstanding.
MORRAL — Mohawk topped Ridgedale in a Northern 10 Athletic Conference girls basketball game Friday, 60-27. The Warriors (8-11, 7-8 N10) won the first quarter, 19-8, and took a 33-12 advantage into halftime.
SANDUSKY — Mohawk went 4-0 on Friday in the first day of the Division III Duals at Sandusky St. Mary. The Warriors defeated Huron, 45-24; Tinora, 48-21; Troy Christian, 40-33; and Western Reserve, 59-17.
MARION — Seven Upper Sandusky wrestlers went 2-0 to reach the semifinals of the Sally George Invitational on Friday at Pleasant. The Rams were 15-3 overall to take first place after one day with 79 points.
Marion County pulled away in the second half to defeat Angeline, 74-35, on Thursday. The Hawks led 18-15 after one quarter and 34-23 at halftime and then outscored the Indians (4-4) 40-12 in the second half.
McCOMB — Riverdale’s fourth-quarter comeback effort fell short against McComb in a Blanchard Valley Conference girls basketball game Thursday, as the Panthers held on for a 62-59 win. The Falcons (10-8, 6-3 BVC) fell behind 18-14 after the first quarter and 32-27 at halftime.
NEW RIEGEL — New Riegel held Mohawk to 10 points in the second half to pull away with a 67-32 victory in boys basketball non-conference action Thursday night. The Blue Jackets (11-3) built a 23-7 lead after one quarter and were up 39-22 at the break.
Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church B remained in first place in the Wyandot County Church Dartball League by winning 10-2 and 4-2 before a 5-3 loss to Ridge Chapel Church of the Nazarene on Thursday.
Upper Sandusky’s eighth grade girls basketball team defeated Colonel Crawford, 31-20, on Thursday. Eve Smith led the Rams with seven points, and Hannah McKinnis, Rose Smith, Chloe Taylor and Reagan Ward all tallied four points.
