MOUNT BLANCHARD — Riverdale seemed to be in trouble Wednesday night against Bluffton in a Division III volleyball postseason opener. The Falcons dropped two straight games and were trailing 8-5 in the decisive fifth game. That’s when Riverdale coach Jenny Young called a timeout.

BUCYRUS — Alyssa Harrer plays every rotation for the Wynford volleyball team. So when the senior leading hitter came off the floor with the Royals ahead 16-14 in the tight fourth set of an even tighter match, it was a surprise. No. 8 Wynford was nine points away from winning its sectional semifinal against No. 9 Gibsonburg and advancing in the tournament.

SYCAMORE — Mohawk already had swept Bucyrus twice this season, but for a few moments early and late, it looked like that would not happen a third time. BLUFFTON — Tuesday night’s Division III sectional semifinal girls soccer result was all too familiar for the Mohawk girls soccer team. Just like during the regular season, the Warriors dropped a 2-0 decision to the Pirates at Steinmetz Field.

CAREY — Third-seeded Carey cruised through its Division IV volleyball sectional semifinal Tuesday, serving 26 aces to top No. 13 Vanlue in less than 40 minutes, 25-6, 25-6, 25-3. “It always feels good to come out and just pick up where we left off,” Carey setter Sydney Wentling said.

NORTH ROBINSON — The Mohawk seventh grade football team defeated Colonel Crawford, 30-14, on Tuesday. Jesse Leeth rushed for two touchdowns and three two-point conversions. Leeth and Trey Combs both threw touchdown passes to Austin Tusing, who also had an interception on defense.

The Cardinals completed an undefeated Midget League Football regular season with a 34-12 victory against the Raiders on Sunday.

KENTON — Upper Sandusky went into halftime in reasonable shape Monday night during its boys soccer postseason opener. The Rams trailed 2-1, but their offsides trap was frustrating Kenton.

Upper Sandusky had the wind in the second half. It had possession, and it had chances. But it didn’t score.
