BUCYRUS — On the court, most basketball coaches are enemies, but off the court, they can be the best of friends as evidenced by the support Dave Hirschy and his wife, Kathy, are receiving. Kathy was diagnosed with early-onset dementia more than three years ago at only 46 years old, and a number of coaches from north central Ohio have come together to put together the “August 1st” benefit to raise money for the family and for the Alzheimer’s Association.

The Northern 10 Athletic Conference athletic ticket prices for varsity contests for the upcoming school year are $6 for adults and $5 for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. For junior varsity, freshman and junior high contests, tickets are $4 for adults and $3 for students.

Upper Sandusky High School is hosting a fall sport parent meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the high school gym. Parents of all fall sport athletes are expected to attend.

CAREY — The fourth annual Wyandot Sports Hall of Fame golf outing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Aug. 15 at Bob’s Countryside Golf Course, 4204 OH 199, Carey. The four-person scramble is accepting first 18 teams to register.

The Upper Sandusky boys soccer alumni game is set for 11 a.m. Saturday. All past team players are invited to play or to come and visit with other players and coaches. The public is welcome.

The Ohio High School Athletic Association adopted recommendations by the National Federation of State High School Associations Concussion Summit Task Force, which will reduce the risk in football for concussions and head impact exposure, according to a release July 13. The OHSAA Board of Directors unanimously approved the changes in a conference call vote, the release said. Concussions can’t be prevented in a contact sport like football, but trying to limit exposure to high school athletes is a start.

The Lady Rams Black/The Andersons 15-and-younger fastpitch softball team defeated Galion last Wednesday evening, 11-0, to win the Mid Ohio League softball tournament. The Rams finished the year 13-1.
