Area coaches come together to organize benefit for Hirschys BUCYRUS — On the court, most basketball coaches are enemies, but off the court, they can be the best of friends as evidenced by the support Dave Hirschy and his wife, Kathy, are receiving. Kathy was diagnosed with early-onset dementia more than three years ago at only 46 years old, and a number of coaches from north central Ohio have come together to put together the “August 1st” benefit to raise money for the family and for the Alzheimer’s Association. USHS sports passes go on sale next week The Northern 10 Athletic Conference athletic ticket prices for varsity contests for the upcoming school year are $6 for adults and $5 for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. OHSAA’s new football contact guidelines aimed at reducing concussions The Ohio High School Athletic Association adopted recommendations by the National Federation of State High School Associations Concussion Summit Task Force, which will reduce the risk in football for concussions and head impact exposure, according to a release July 13. The OHSAA Board of Directors unanimously approved the changes in a conference call vote, the release said. Concussions can’t be prevented in a contact sport like football, but trying to limit exposure to high school athletes is a start. Read More
