Edison sweeps in battle of Hoover family of coaches

OLD FORT — Sean Hoover and Edison were the overall winners of a Hoover family volleyball tri-match Saturday at Old Fort. The Chargers defeated both Mohawk, coached by Sean's brother, Eric, and Old Fort, coached by mother Nancy. The Warriors fell to the Stockaders, 26-24, 21-25, 25-23, 17-25, 15-12, and lost to the Chargers, 25-20, 25-20, 25-14.

Whippets top Royals in 4

SHELBY — For the third time this season, the Wynford volleyball team suffered a 3-1 loss, this time at Shelby on Saturday. The Royals (1-3) swept River Valley for their only win and have been competitive in all three losses.

The weather more resembled the middle of the season and so too did many of the times Tuesday as cross country season began with the Icebreaker Invitational at Harrison Smith Park. With temperatures barely at 70 rather than pushing 90 like many years, athletes enjoyed good running conditions and positive results.

Upper edges St. Peter’s, 2-1

Winning effort

Upper Sandusky’s girls soccer team earned its second straight one-goal win, defeating Mansfield St. Peter’s, 2-1, on Tuesday. Megan Hensel scored on an assist from Grace Miller less than eight minutes into the match, and with 12:14 left in the half, Miller scored on an assist from Sierra Carey.
