Falcons reach podium a 2nd time in 1600 relay

Met expectations

COLUMBUS — Riverdale sophomores Josh Hunter and Kyle Evans, senior Chad Pever and junior Joe Lauck reached the podium for the second time Saturday by finishing seventh Saturday in the finals of the 1600 relay in Division III competition at the state track and field meet at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

Pauley squeezes into finals, takes 4th place

COLUMBUS — Riverdale sophomore Carrol Pauley made the most out of squeaking into the finals of the Division III girls discus Friday in the state track and field meet. Pauley’s three best throws were here last three, and they moved her from off the podium in ninth to a fourth-place finish with her final effort of 130-10.

3200 relay finishes 3rd, 1600 advances

COLUMBUS — Running in the state meet, placing third and getting on the podium, breaking your own previous school record and qualifying for the finals in another event is a pretty solid day for any relay team. It was a successful Friday for the 3200 and 1600 Riverdale relay team of Kyle Evans, Joe Lauck, Josh Hunter and Chad Pever at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus, medaling in the 3200 and making the finals in the 1600.

Konkle starts fast, but trips going over hurdle

COLUMBUS — Mohawk’s Ali Konkle was aiming for a fast start in Division III girls 100 hurdles competition in the state track and field meet Friday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. She may have been going too fast. The Mohawk senior clipped the third hurdle of the race and went down.

Wickiser, Carey relay fall short

COLUMBUS — The Carey girls 800 relay team and senior pole vaulter Christy Wickiser overcame some odds this season making it to the state meet Friday. After a subpar time of 1:51 in district competition, the 800 relay team shaved off four seconds and ran a 1:47.88 at regionals to qualify for state.

Slow start out of blocks costs Fortner

COLUMBUS — Unfortunately for Wynford junior Cole Fortner, his first start did not count Friday in the Division III boys 100 dash preliminaries in the state track and field meet. After a false start by Tiffin Calvert’s Tyler Long, all of the runners had to reset, and Fortner’s second effort out of the blocks was not up to its usual standard.

Bushong a BVC 1st-team pick

Josh Bushong

Riverdale senior Josh Bushong was named to the All-Blanchard Valley Conference baseball first team in a release recently. Tristan Davis was named to the All-BVC second team, while Grant Loveridge and Trey Miller were listed as honorable mention.
