The dust has settled and after a competitive Wyandot County Fair king and queen pageant Monday, Benjamin Ault and Taylor Fredritz were named the 2024 Wyandot County Fair King and Queen, respectively.

Ault ran unopposed for fair king while Fredritz beat out a field of six queen candidates that included Brook Montgomery, Kyana Crum, Audrey Kinley, Abigail Boes and Wrehn Thompson.

Thompson was named first attendent.

Ault is a son of Kevin and Jessica Ault. He is a freshman at Ohio State University – Marion campus, majoring in career technical education. He was a member of Upper Sandusky High School FFA for four years. He also was a junior fair board member for four years.

Fredritz is a daughter of Kathy Fredritz. She is a senior at Carey High School and has been a member of Carey Boys 4-H for nine years. She has participated in Carey FFA, junior fair board, Carey band and is a majorette for the band.

The first round of the pageant took place before the Wyandot County Fair opened its doors with all contestents sitting down for interviews with the judges.

During the pageant, all contestents were asked the same question about the importance of the Junior Fair Board.

All contestents then were asked a random question drawn from a basket.

Ault drew laughs when asked if there was a rule he’d like to remove.

“I have a lead foot, so I’d remove the speed limit between Upper Sandusky and Marion,” he said.

The pageant was hosted by 2023 Wyandot County Fair King Carson Dunn and Queen Leah Herring.

Dunn shared some of his experience at county fairs around the state representing Wyandot County.

“I had a really good time with it,” Dunn said.

Herring shared her experience in the Ohio Fair Queen’s contest, in which she competed against 77 other fair queens in a pageant.

“I’m thankful for the experience,” Herring said. “It really opened the door for a lot of new opportunities. I learned a smile, a high five or some words of encouragements can go far.”

She told the contestents that the year goes by quickly.
