Wyandot Memorial to offer free and low-cost health screenings at the Wyandot County Fair Posted on September 1, 2015 0 Wyandot Memorial Hospital will offer free and low-cost health screenings at the Wyandot County Fair. The screenings will be performed by health care professionals at the hospital’s booth in the Merchants’ Building. Blood screenings will be available from 9:30–11 a.m. Sept. 15-19. The lab draw is an automated CBC, full lipid profile, basic metabolic panel and AST/ALT for $30. The screening checks hemoglobin, white cell count, total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides and ratio, glucose (blood sugar), electrolytes, kidney function and liver enzymes. For the most accurate results, participants are asked to fast for 12 hours prior to the test. Four other blood tests will be offered. The PSA for $10 measures prostate-specific antigen, and the A1C test for $15 measures the average blood glucose for the past two to three months. The tests for TSH and Free T4 to check thyroid function are combined for $20. These four tests require no fasting. The results for the blood tests will be mailed to participants. Free blood pressure checks and oxygen saturation rates will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 15-17 and 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 18-19. The blood pressure screenings determine the risk for hypertension, an indicator for heart disease and stroke. Oxygen saturation rates are obtained with a pulse oximeter and measure the percentage of red blood cells carrying oxygen to vital organs and tissues. Additional information about the health screenings is available from the hospital’s Wellness Center at 419-294-4991, ext. 2236. The hospital also will have wheelchairs for loan each day at the fair on a first-come, first-served basis.
