Free tax prep available for Wyandot County residents Posted on January 25, 2017 0 AARP Tax-Aide will offer free tax preparation through a joint effort with the Wyandot County Council on Aging and Trinity Evangelical United Methodist Church. Volunteers will e-file federal, state and school tax returns at no cost at the church on Malabar Drive each Thursday and Friday from Feb. 2 to April 13. There is no income or age limit for participants, but preference will be given to those older than age 60. Volunteer team members will prepare and e-file any form or schedule in which they have been trained. AARP Tax-Aide is the nation’s largest free volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service. This is the eighth year the local agencies are working together to offer free tax preparation in Wyandot County. The IRS has contracted with a new company for the computer tax preparation. Be prepared to spend more time getting taxes completed. Volunteers will not have access to past year’s returns. Each participant must bring a copy of last year’s tax return, social security cards for every person on the return and a photo I.D. for all those present at the time of preparation. The new computer program does not compare married filing jointly with married filing separately. Anyone who is married but wants to file separately must make two appointments. Call the Council on Aging at 419-294-5733 to schedule a tax appointment. Transportation is available for anyone age 60 and older who needs a ride.
