Catholic Ladies of Columbia

President Barb Grasz called the meeting of the Catholic Ladies of Columbia to order for September with 33 members present.

The meeting was opened with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. It was announced that Rita Bricely died.

The charter was draped. Prayers and a resolution were said.

Roll call was taken. Minutes of the last meeting were read and accepted. Communications were read.

The treasurer’s report was given by Rosemary Smalley. The sick and shut-in report was given.

The bus trip report was given by Teresa M. Brodman. Winners of next year’s trip included Sandy Deckler and Charise Shick.

The St. Peter’s Night Glow Run report was given and a Cedar Point appreciation day was shared.

Key cards are available for $5 from Barb Grasz and the cooking for the Friday night dinners sign up was discussed.

The grant for the YUM program in the schools was discontinued due to lack of grant funding.

In new business, the fall retreat is Oct. 1 (no October meeting) at St. Mary’s Chapel, Kirby with Mass at 6 p.m. and Friar Tony officiating and speaking on “how we live in hominess in our world.”

This is open to all and is catered by the Corner Inn. A pulled pork dinner will be served in the center with door prizes and a 50/50. The cost is $5.

Make a Difference Day is Oct. 26, and the board wants the CLC to take part in the day by caring for caregivers and sharing stories with the home office.

Members should bring stories for the November meeting.

Knights of Columbus men will be hosting a purse bingo Nov. 16 with donations going to chapel window for Kirby, St. Mary Chapel. The time is to be announced.

The Oct. 19 St. Peter’s ho-down square dance is $10 and includes barbeque dinner, dessert and dancing.

Tickets go on sale Monday after the fair for the first 200 people. Call the school or church for tickets.

Guest speaker Kathleen Witt spoke about the library levy. She shared the library loaned over 2,000 books, has a history room and an archive of newspapers since 1853 on microfilm.

She noted it has fax, laminating and die cut availability. She shared that the library has meeting rooms and 12 computer stations with Microsoft access as well as high speed internet.

The library has weekly programing for adults through preschoolers that includes music concerts, book talks, cooking demonstrations and more.

Witt noted that since 2015, the library has a new digital microfilm reader, six more computers, is able to accept credit cards, has automatic renewal, does clothing swaps, has added automatic door openers at the front entrance and an AED, introduced the “pop up library” system, has done new landscaping and signage and has new access to job search portals and “how to” databases.

Many of these projects were conducted in cooperation with the Wyandot County Community Foundation and Friends of the Library.

August birthdays were announced. The September committee was thanked. Members were Karen Walter, JoAnn Yeater, Yvonne Baldwin, Mary Alice Wines, Betty Wines, Dianna Gabriel-Rife, Vicky Moore, Karen Young, Harriet Amendola and Paula Fisher.

School-themed flower arrangements were given as door prizes.

October committee members were announced as LuAnn Boes, Mary Boes, Carolyn Riedlinger, Janice Boes, Susy Frey, Maria Vaughn, Jean Ann Shumaker, Jennifer Horn and JoAnn Riedlinger.

Andrea Gadomski shared information about officer nominations and elections for November.

The next meeting is 6 p.m. Oct. 1 at St. Mary’s Chapel, Kirby.
 


 
Mohawk Lions and Lioness clubs

SYCAMORE — On Aig/ 27, Patty Moormon, Lions Club Zone Chairman attended the Sycamore Lions, Mohawk Lioness Club Picnic held at the Sycamore Park in Sycamore.

Moormon is from Crestline representing the Lions Clubs in this district.

She announced several upcoming events for the district which could be attended by all the clubs.

Also discussed was the Sunday coverage of the Seneca County Fair gates and a check was presented that is to be shared by both the Sycamore Lions and the Mohawk Lioness.

For the Lioness, it was announced there will not be a board meeting on Sept. 6 but both clubs will be attending the combined potluck for those that help with the Seneca County Fair gates at the Sycamore fire house at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 24.

Also in September, the Lioness will hold their regular meeting on Sept. 18 to go over the programs for the new year. Hostesses for this meeting are Blanche Ohl and Maxine Hannam.
